U9 Rugby FestivalÂ
The U9 rugby squad travelled to King’s Hawford for an exciting festival of rugby, fielding two strong teams who were each placed in different groups. Despite the wet and muddy conditions, both teams rose to the challenge and showcased excellent teamwork, determination, and skill throughout the day.
From the first whistle, it was clear that both sides were among the strongest teams in their respective groups. The players adapted brilliantly to the slippery surface, tackling bravely, running hard, and supporting each other in every play. One of our teams went undefeated, securing victory in all their matches through superb handling, strong defence, and great awareness on the pitch. The other team also performed outstandingly, producing some thrilling rugby and showing tremendous spirit in every game. Overall, it was a fantastic day of rugby, full of enthusiasm, effort, and enjoyment. The boys can be proud of their performances and the way they represented the School.
U11 Rugby v Warwick & RGS
The U11 rugby teams took part in a triangular against Warwick and RGS on Wednesday in a great afternoon of rugby. Mr Protherough’s squad played a very strong Warwick side first and, in the first half, performed well. However, after conceding a couple of tries, their heads dropped a bit and Warwick came on strong in the 2nd half. The one player who really stood out as never giving up was Nyre who displayed great physicality and determination throughout.
After a frank discussion about never giving up and demonstrating the BCS values, especially perseverance, the boys were transformed against RGS and put in their best performance of the season to win 3-1 in a performance full of tenacity, determination. Mr Protherough was incredibly proud of the turnaround in such a short space of time, and again Nyre was the stand out player with some surging runs and crunching tackles.
In Mr Gregory’s team, the players of note were Riyan who has developed hugely over the course of the season, and Matthew who shows great tenacity and evasion skills.
U9 Hockey FestivalÂ
The U9 Girls’ Hockey Festival brought together six schools for a fantastic afternoon of competitive, high-energy hockey. Each team had the opportunity to play every other school in a series of well-spirited matches, giving all players plenty of time on the ball and the chance to develop their skills in real game situations.
Although no scores were kept and no winners were announced, the standard of play was impressive throughout. The girls showed great determination, teamwork, and positivity in every fixture, demonstrating improving stick work, movement into space, and commitment in defence. Teachers and supporters were treated to a showcase of developing talent and enthusiastic play.
The festival achieved exactly what it set out to do: encourage participation, enjoyment, and a love of the game. With smiles all round and teams celebrating each other’s efforts, hockey was very much the winner of the day.
U8 Hockey FestivalÂ
The U8 Girls’ Hockey Festival welcomed eight schools for an exciting morning of friendly yet competitive hockey. With a round-robin format, every team faced each of the other schools, ensuring plenty of opportunities for the girls to experience match play, try new skills, and grow in confidence on the pitch.
Across all fixtures, the enthusiasm and energy were clear to see. The players worked hard to support one another, showed improving control on the ball, and demonstrated fantastic teamwork throughout. Coaches and spectators were impressed by the developing game understanding on display, from finding space to defending with determination.
As with all development festivals, no scores were recorded and no overall winners were announced. Instead, the focus remained firmly on enjoyment, participation, and progress. The atmosphere was superb, and it was evident that every team took pride in their efforts. By the end of the festival, it was clear that the real winner was the sport itself.
